Habitat - Indoor :: hardwater stain

i just filled cujos tank up about 3 inches from the top. (he is pretty happy about it) but there are hard water stains where the water line once was and also where the bubbles from my bubble disk would splatter. is there any way to get rid of them without having to empty the tank?

use a razor blade. as long as you dont have an acrylic tank.

I hope someone has a clue how to get rid of the hard water stains. I have tried everything I could think of. Hate those stains.

Yeah, I have water stains on where my water linne is.
I think its kinda helpful for me because i always know how much water to put into the tank. But i dont know how i could have the hard water stains because we dont have hard water?

You can use one of the aquarium scrubbers. Not the magnetic ones, they look like the ones found here:

You can get them at any pet store. There's one for acrylic and one for glass, so get the appropriate one and scrub away. It's super easy and works fantastically!! It's what I use on mine.

Edit: They aren't great at removing algae, just hard water stains.

i have one of those and one of the magnetic ones. its finally starting to come off. i think the fact that its been sitting in water is helping get it off.

Yeah, I dip my scrubber in the water before scrubbing. It seems to help a lot.

ive had those stains before and tried everything, then i tried a razor blade and it worked wonderfully. make sure the area is wet and then start slowly removing the stains

whenever i do a 50% water change, getting rid of those stains is quick and easy.

scrub it off using a cloth slightly dipped in vinegar. it doesn't hurt the turts and/or the fishes inside the tank. the stains will be gone in four or five quick scrubs.

i've been doing this since i got my new tank last january.

I also use vinegar. Works wonders and is pretty safe for the tank critters. regular old white vinegar is perfect

I'm glad I saw this topic posted because this is something I have to deal with everytime I do a water change. I'm gonna try it this Sunday and see if vinegar really works! Thanks...I hope!

I have hardwater stains, and I've used a razor blade but I don't like them enough. I'll have to try them other things.

I have one of those scrubbers and it didn't help. I tried using vinegar with no luck either. But I am using an older tank and the stains have been there for a long time.

I also have a problem with this. I just bought a used 55gal tank for my little guys and it has them BAD!! I soaked paper towel with vinegar and stuck it to the side, held itself up. I will let you know tomorrow how it worked.

all the hardwater stains i had are now gone. after i filled the water up over them i would run my magfloat over them and after about a week they went away. having them underwater helped
