Habitat - Indoor :: Above Tank Basking Area

I was wondering if there was some way that I could use my 10 galon tank as an above tank basking are for a 55 gallon tank. What I was thinking is cut a whole in the bottom glass just big enough for a turtle dock to fit in and I would have a whole one made without paying any extra money...well except for maybe some reptile carpet for the 10 gallon.

From the sound of it, it might work. I'm having a hard time picturing it though.

Stick part of the turtle dock to the 55 and the other part to the 10 so that can be there ramp. And I'll cut a whole in the bottom glass that substrate would set at. The top would be open since I'd have it sitting right side up and the light could go through.

i assume youre just going to lay the 10 gallon longways across the top of the tank so it just sits there. that sounds alright to me. i guess the most important part with using glass is that you smoothen the cut parts really really good. other than that, i dont see why it would be a problem to make or use

im doing this right now actually with my 135 gallons tank, the bottom of the tank was cracked so i cut out one side, so the rays from the lights wont be filtered out, and im laying it on its side, so what would normally be the top rim will be where the turtles get in and out from, if you have to cut the galss be careful, taking that side out was probably one of the most aggrevating things ever, but a blow torch, a razor blade, leather gloves, and a few small cuts later i got it out, and im trying to figure out if i should use vinyl or carpet for the flooring, ill post pics when i get done.

it sounds like a good idea, i actually tried doing that myself but didn't have anything to cut through glass. what are you using to cut the glass? and like raphulk said make sure all the areas are smooth, you wouldn't want the turtle getting hurt. be careful and good luck!

On this one I would raise it up right under the lip of it and put glass around it.

That first one looks interesting. The second one looks like mine, except mine covers both sides of the aquarium. My heat/UVB side is pretty barren, and the plants and rocks are on the other side along with a hand towel for "fake dirt" that he can burrow under.
