I am looking into basking areas, and thought why not make something unique. (I plan on doing an ATBA but I don't have means of doing so now. When my turtle gets bigger I will.) So I'm using leftover aerated clay I have, but I want to know, do you think that clay is safe for the turtle after it is baked? I also plan on painting it with acrylic paints and glazing it, the acrylics paint says non-toxic, but the glaze I haven't looked. Any insight would be appreciated!
I would think that as long as the glaze is lead free, and intended for use on ceramics that humans eat off of, it would be okay. I would need to see the chemicals used in it to be completely sure.

Ok, I'll post them when I get home. Thanks for help. Now that I think about it, the glaze is all that is really gonna matter, seeing as how it is all that is in direct contacted with the water.
why glaze it? i could see the sense in glazing the bottom for water purposes but not the top. if the top remains unglazed it will absorb the heat, and make it very toasty instead of just repelling the heat and making it very hot (thats my theory any way, haha)

Hmmmm.... that is something to think about. you brought up a good point and I'll probably try that. Then if I don't like it I can simply glaze the rest of it, BRILLIANT! Thanks zoologist.
