Habitat - Indoor :: New Tank 55 gallon!!!

So i was on craigslist today and found a pretty good deal. A 55 gallon tank plus a light hood and plants and the stand and some ceramic logs for the bottom and the best part is that there was free delivery!!. All for 100$. So i got it delivered tonight and i just got it all cleaned and set up and no leaks!. I had the filter media still installed from my previous tank and let it run for about 3 hours to get the cycle going before i put the turts in. Mikey is about 1 1/2 inches so its a nice size tank for him and my girlfriends turtle (about 2 inches) will be sharing it with him for another week. I know it looks a little bare and i need to get a new heater. I previously had a 20 gallon tank with a heater built for a 20 gallon but that heater is cranked all the way up and the water is holding steady at 75. But check it out. (they look sooo small in such a big tank ha)

I made a canister filter a while back from a pond pump and a tweaked in line house filter. The pump was rated at i think about 400 gph and i have a heavy mesh foam, a finer foam, and carbon. It gives the tank a really good current. I plan on getting powerhead soon to help kick around some of the junk on the bottom.

75 F is plenty warm for a RES. Some people will even tell you to keep it closer to 70, as it slows down their metabolism a little.

Well after a couple of hours the temp is back up to 78 where i usually have it. They are both small and ive read alot that the younger ones should be kept in the upper 70s. Ill check the temp in the morning again to see if any changes need to be made to the heater. Im thinking about putting down sand for substrate. It looks sooo good in the tanks ive seen on this website. Should i take the plunge? no pun intended...
