I got new supplies today ! I got a 75 watt basking bulb with a lamp, is this ok ?? It is on right now along with a water heater I just plugged in. Will this be too hot for them ?

You need a thermometer to measure the temperatures precisely. For hatchlings,
water temperature should be around 78 F. Basking temperature is around 10 F
above the water temperature to encourage basking.

I doubt the heat lamp will affect water temperature much if it's positioned above
the basking area.

yes i got a thermometer, but it says the temp is only about 71. I put a heater in but i know those take a while.

Do you have a UVB lamp for them as well? If not, pick one up when you go out to get a thermometer.

I'm having problems measuring the temperature on my basking area. I have a hatchling so for the basking area I have three large rocks stacked up in a corner and the hatchling basks on the tallest rock. Unfortunately the area isn't really big enough to lay a thermometer on...any suggestions?

What kind of thermometers are you using? A few of us have been using infrared temp guns for spot readings.
