So i went to home depot today and picked up 100 lbs of play sand for $7. I only put 50 pounds of it in my 55 gallon and it gave me about 2 inches of sand in the tank. I washed it for about 45 minutes in two batches (25lbs each in a 5 gallon bucket). It really wasnt too cloudy when i put it in so i went ahead and turned my filter on. Here's what it looks like now while im still waiting for it to settle a little bit more.

Also i made an overflow for my sump system. I got the plans for this off of monsterfishkeepers so props to them. It works great! What it does is keeps the water level constant and if in the event my pump shuts off due to power outage for example, it wont let the water drop past a certain point and keeping me from having a flood. Also the design of this overflow allows it to start syphoning water as soon as the water level in the tank begins to rise (which would mean the pump started working again). The cost for the overflow parts was about $15 and made from 1 inch pvc piping.

Oh and the 10 gallon underneath my 55 is for Rosy Reds I'm trying to breed for feeders. (Don't worry i give Mikey 1 feeder usually about 1 every two weeks.)
cheers!!

Nice job and very nice overflow. I knew that overflow was from monsterfishkeepers before you said it haha. I saw that thread.

Looks much better. Where did you get the small grasslike plant on the left of your tank?

I got them from a brand new petco near my house. It's the nicest petco I have ever been to.

I might have to order those since I never go to petco(not in my area), I like them a lot. I think they would add a nice touch to my tank.
Thanks.
