Habitat - Indoor :: Cracked aquarium. need help fixing it.

i have a tank that is about 24Lx12Wx24H in inches. and on one of the sides, there is a 1 and a quarter inch crack starting right at the corner. this is also about 8 and a half inch up from the base.

can i just fix this with silicon? or can i do the piece of glass plus silicon?

will it leak?

im also planning to fill it up like 5 inches below the top of the tank.

Hm. Since the crack is at the right corner, I really wouldn't trust it even when siliconed because the main structure strength of the aquarium has been compromised.

You could always try though. Fix the crack with silicone, then let it dry for about 3 days, and do a test fill in your backyard or somewhere that it won't matter if it busts a leak. If it holds for about a week you should be good to go.

Silicone will not fix a crack. You will need to replace the pane of glass and then re-seal the whole tank with new silicone. For a tank that size it may be less of a hassle to just buy a new tank.

well my dad said he filled the tank up and left it in the yard for a month and nothing happened.

im just seeing if i can fix it since i dont have much money to spend on a new tank.

A new tank is what, $40? Just doesn't seem worth the risk to me. I've had to deal with the mess from a 50G tank that cracked. Trust me, it's not fun.
