i cleaned out my current res tank and scrubbed it down good and guess what i found......it is cracked

so it seems like this upgrade is going to happen a lot sooner. i am actually looking at a 125 and a 120 gallon tank but a stock tank would be so much cheaper but i wouldn't be able to see in the sides which wouldn't be very cool

Start looking at Craigslist. Or Kijiji if its big in your area.

been their and all the fish forums near me found some things but not sure
i found a 125 gallon with a nice iron stand for 275 and i 120 for about the same or i may just go out and buy a new 90 gallon.

If you are going down the stock tank route, you may want to consider having the "sump" over the tank. This will save floor space.

It works in a simple way, rather than the sump being gravity fed and pumped return, you pump the water up and it returns under gravity. this gives you all of the benefits of the sump (large biological area and oxygen rich water in the filter water) and the simplicity, plus if it leaks for any reason it will only leak into the stock tank.

Whatever you do, run the Fluval 4+ in addition to the new filter for a few weeks or longer whilst the bacteria colonises in the new filter.

I expect go down this route in the near future, possibly using my existing Fluval 4+ to power.

will do but i will be able to run it just with the sump when the bacteria colonizes on the bio balls right?

The Fluval could probably help with water movement if you really wanted. But it probably wouldn't be really necessary.

Yes. Once cycled a sump will be many many many times more effective than the Fluval due to the large biological area.

alright that is awesome i have her in the tank that is cracked it seemed to be a cosmetic crack because its not leaking but i would feel much safer with a not cracked tank.

for filtration i have the fluval4plus, zoo med 501 canister, whisper 40 gallon rater power filter and some random internal filter. This looks kinda ridiculous but it will hopefully help out until i can get the new tank set up. this is when its nice to have all of this random fish crap just laying around:)
