I found this DIY Filter setup from another forum. The pump is a Quiet One:1200 that pumps out 265 GPH at the price of 26 bucks. I'm thinking about trying this out.. I'm getting tired of spending some big bucks on a commercial filters that i can create with some elbow grease and a trip to Lowes or Home Depot.. I'm probably going to upgrade to Quite One:3000 that pumps out 700 GPH for at 50 Dollars.

i would say go for it but take a look at sump filters before you jump into that. Sumps put much less strain on the pump itself. Also with canissters you have to make sure it is completely air tight. Making them airtight can also make it a hassle to clean. I made a canister filter that I had running for a couple months but then switched to a sump. I made my sump using a pump. 3 5-gallon buckets‚ polyester pillow filling and about 15 pot scrubbers. Im not saying you shouldnt make the canister but in my opinion from experience‚ the sump was easier to make. Its much more efficient and easier to maintain. Im taking my sump apart tonight to add some more pot scrubbers so let me know if you want me to put up some pictures of it apart. I can also post some pictures of my old diy canister setup too if you would like
