Habitat - Indoor :: Basking spot too low?

I ordered a 90 gallon tank with a built in basking spot off glasscages.com the other day. The tank is 25 inches tall and the basking spot is going to be 5 inches off the rim so the platform is at 20 inches. It leaves space for almost 20 inches of water, is that enough? I've had a lot of replies to my posts about water depth so I was wondering if I should call to raise it.

Do you know the sex of your RES? I suspect that'll be enough water. That's still over 70 gallons of water, which is pretty good.

it would have to be LOWERED if you have no sort of lid, or basking area protection put up. 5 inches would allow the turt to grab the rim, and pull himself out. If you raised it (which I reccomend) all you would have to do, is throw up some side shields, perhaps plexiglass?, around the basking area, and you would be able to use all the room in the tank.

Twenty inches of swimming space sounds fine to me.

Be careful though, I'm sure you may already know this, but, I can't stress enough how unusually smart, flexible, and strong turtles are, even as babies. If they can climb up or on something, they will. I've heard of them being able to lift 15 pounds too when adults. An above basking area needs to be anchored very tightly, in case a turtle may stand up straight on a wall and knock it over, or push themselves against the wall, like mine do.

Shelsters, I got my tank for $400. It's a lot but we added some features like a drain, a hinged screen top, and the basking spot.
