Habitat - Indoor :: WATER HEATER...WRONG "WATT"

I have just recently bought a 150 wat water heater that is made for
"up to 40 gallons". product name : VISI THERM. First water heater ever purchased and i had thought since i have a 40 gallon tuber ware, then it would be perfect. But what i came to find out was that the the minimum water level for the heater was alot higher than i'd expected. And of course with my tuber ware set up i dont fill the tank all the way... so i was wondering if it were going to be dangerous to use in my set up... where there is only like 20 to 25 galons of water??? really dont want to go through shipping it back... so i was wondering if it would be ok to use it in my 20-25 gallon of water???

It should only be a problem if the water doesn't COMPLETELY cover the heater. If it has open air touching it, the difference in temperature could cause it to crack/shatter. As long as it has a thermostat on it, not just an on/off switch, it will be fine

Thanks... i guess i'll have to buy a smaller heater.

Place it at an angle so it is completely submerged. They do not have to be upright. You can even lie then flat on the bottom if you need.

The only danger then is that if the thermostat jams on, it will overheat the water a little bit quicker.
