Habitat - Indoor :: 50 gallon or 100 gallon rubbermaid tank?

I really have to disagree with artbook. If you have places for them to rest and hide they'll be fine; they'll get more stress from seeing you approach than anything.

With all respect, I wonder what hatchlings do in the wild....suffer heart attacks from being in a big, bad outdoor pond????? Really...

@theartbook35, i had no idea large tanks could cause them stress, maybe i'll wait a bit until i upgrade to a 50/100 gallon then.

@caphits, thanks! i'm not exactly sure what the container is in gallons, what do you think it is? i'd love to know myself :





to prevent starting another thread i'll just ask it here; is a 155 gph internal filter good with the container i'm using? i read about how using the wrong gph in a wrong tank size can be bad for the turtles(or something along those lines). i'm using a fluval u3.

It's actually okay to get a 50 gallon, don't get me wrong on that. A 100 gallon is just too big.

The tub looks maybe between 30 and 40 gallons, and your turtles about one inch right now, right? This tub will last you, I'd say about a year or two, maybe more, it all depends on how fast your turtles grow naturally. There really is no rush for you to get a bigger tub or tank right this second, they should be fine with that amount of room.

Know what I would do? I would actually let the turtles run around in the red ball with the cap on, outside of the water. The thing is practically made so they can't flip themselves over. It would be a great way for them to dry off and get running exercise at the same time.

@theartbook35, thanks for the help! a year? wow, i was afraid they would grow up really fast so i thought i'd be ready, but this is better. and the red ball for outdoor use is genius. now all i have to do is to find the cap lol

Just be really really careful about the current setup. Those rubbermaids are NOT designed to hold water. So really make sure that you constantly looking for cracks. I would hate to see that much water all over the floor.

Dont take use the red ball outside. It will heat up very hot very vast. Also, you shouldnt use it for such small turtles. They will be stressed, and possibly get too cold.

That lllreptile.com site sells tubs which are made to hold water. I am so getting one soon.

I didn't say outdoors, wartortle, sorry I didn't specify. Like, take the red ball in the living room or something. Just let them run around for about five minutes, that's plenty. Lol, I forgot you're new to this. The only reason I mentioned this is because hatchlings LOVE to run around. They get in these spontaneous sprinter moments. If you have any other pets like cats or dogs, then the red ball is a no go. I could never do this, because my cat Spike would be after my girls in a heartbeat.
