oh i see. yea i rinse the sponge that's in my Aquaclear as well. I've also had to do some cleaning for the container that holds the media & around the impellar. that part, imo, is quite time consuming & was wondering if a similar process is needed for the Emperor 400.

* anyone who has an Emperor filter, please let me know your cleaning process with it. do you just rinse/replace the filter pads for it or is there a much more needed cleaning process for it?

I also mean to say that I suspect gunk would collect in the Emperor as well, especially if a fair amount of time elapses between cleanings.

hi! i have one of these on a 40 gallon tank and it works fantastic! i just recently bought another one for my 125 gallon off of ebay for 20.00 so when i get the new tank up and going i will have two!

you bought an Emperor 400 filter? if so, what's your process for keeping it clean?

it is very easy to keep clean! when i change the filters i just put a gravel vac in there and suck anything out. but it never really gets that dirty unless sand gets sucked up in there!

I have a canister filter and I use a small hang on filter to clean up the surface.

i would consider a canister filter if i had a place to put it, but i have no room
