i want to build a wooden platform for my two res to bask on, i was wondering is any wood is fine, or if i should have a certain wood that will be okay in water??

I read that cork bark is the best option. Other types of wood will dissolve eventually.

Lighter woods are good. like cork is a good wood to use.

Unless you're using cork bark (like was mentioned), you don't really want any type of plywood in the water. You never know what it's been treated with. If we're talking about the walls of the basking area, that should be OK, though I think untreated wood would still be better than any kind of treated wood. I'd be wary about cedar too, since it's poisonous to other pets.

You could also make a really natural basking area with a piece of cleaned driftwood. This site has a really good explanation for that:
