Ok so I dont have Nikos permanent 60L x 18W x 24H tank yet for his/her bad [---] stand as seen in another post here but I just had a great idea for an under tank liner (between bottom of tank and top of stand). Can anyone guess what it is and why I chose it ?

If no one guesses right after 5 - 10 replies I'll share the idea which alot of you will like if not already considered yourselves

That was my first thought but no, it seems a bit to rigid/hard for my likeing. Since your the only reply thus far I'll give a small hint. It's like foam board but more manageable "it can be rolled".

Nope, I'll just come clean because I really like the idea... quarter inch thick (if I measured right) under carpet padding. They got em with diff stiffnesses but I got one thats like a really good foam mattress thats really flexible but has alot of give to it. It should provide the best padding for Nikos perma tank when I get it, this way nothing will be resing on the wood under the tank.

Ya but people still recomend you padd them for added measure. Plus the tank I'd be getting is acrylic so I'd want it regardless just to protect the bottom from scratches.

Ya, I like the idea of carpet padding compared to everything else I could come up with because like I said it's thick and feels like a really good foam matteress thats stiff but allows you just enough give to feel good. Plus if and when the tanks ever moved it would release over time and go back to it's original size unlike a foam board or something.

I use the rubbermaid shelf liner that has the holes in it. It's cushy and won't budge, and it's a pretty blue color so it looks good with my substrate-less tank.

I thought of that to but wanted something with thickness that would push back like the carpet padding. I do like the way the shelf liner doesnt slip much though.

hmmm i dont use anything. my stand has chipboard on top which i thought looked unsightly so i covered it with laminate flooring.

i dont get why it would need to be cushioned, especially with carpet underlay.. that stuff would just squish down to nothing and stick to the bottom of my tank. which must weigh 1 ton or more once filled.

Owners choice really, I've just always been told that even though it may not really be needed to always use some sort of padding under your tank. As for carpet padding sticking to the tank, ya thats a possibility but I dont think I'll have that issue when I finally get Nikos perma homw. Even if I do end up havin that problem it wont be to bad but ya, Ive always been told to use some sort of padding even if it's not really needed plus it only cost me like $5.

Oh, another reason I like the idea of padding which just hit me is that I'll be getting an acrylic tank so the carpet padding will help protect the bottom from getting scrapes/scratches from the hardwood surface of my stand.
