Habitat - Indoor :: Turtle not basking.

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I believe my 2 year old RES isn't basking, or hasn't been basking. I am worried she can't get on this floaty wood thing she came with when I adopted her. No one has ever seen her bask, and I know turtles like privacy and all but I figured atleast once someone would see her.

I also can't seem to find the right basking platform at PetSmart or Petco, they all seem to be for smaller turtles and she isn't small. She isn't huge but she isn't small.

:( I need help.

You might need to try online for the right sized basking platform. Drs foster and smith sell the one I favor. I have above the tank areas for both turts now, but one incorporates this platfrom. I use the large size, but I have an 8+ inch turtle too.

Oh thank you :D that seems like it just might work for her.

But I am worried about the fact I have quite a bit of water in my tank and that platform is shown with a smaller amount of water than I have. Do you think that would matter at all when it comes to the item working properly?

As long as your turty can't climb out of the tank, it should be fine. The suction cups work really well for most turtles. I believe Sheba, who is 9 inches and 4 pounds, requires her person Kristin, to put magnets under the platform as well to avoid slippage.

If it doesnt bask for a long time. And you are worried. You could try put him in a dry tub under the sun or the lights for about 10 minutes and then dip them into water for about 5 minutes for them to hydrate. And put them in the dry tub again if u wish. But be sure to have a shaded area as it might get too hot under the light or sun.
