I e-mailed Penn Plax and they gave me the address of a Petco here in Houston that carries it. While I loved the video and thought it was a great idea when I actually saw it I found that it was very flimsy and I don't think my turt could even get into it much less hold her. Probably good for very young turts to get used to basking but for bigger ones (7" long like mine or more) I wouldn't trust it. But I do agree that this is a big step in the right direction, being a new turtle owner I've had a really difficult time finding items that will hold adult turtles, it seems like everything is geared towards the little ones and the manufacturers apparently don't believe turtles get bigger, go figure.

Did you watch the video of the Turtle Topper online at www.pennplax.com or youtube. You can place a brick that ways 5 pounds on the platform, no problem with holding the weight of your turtle at all.

Nice set up but the water is too high for my turtles. They could get out of that "topper". m.

mistademua I saw the PennPlax video that was linked to this site. You are right, a brick would make it more stable. I still am concerned that it may be a bit weak for a large turt and when I pulled it out of the box at the store I really didn't think my turt could even get in it. But I do think this is a great idea and a step in the right direction for reptile manufacturers to acknowledge that aquatic turtles have certain needs. And this item certainly allows the turt to have more swimming room in the tank!

I thought it might not be strong enough for a large turtle either but apparently it's stronger then it seems. My turtle gets up and down the ramp just fine and he's 8" now.

Do they make toppers for tanks over 55gallons (12 inches wide) yet?

Their YouTube homepage says they have a "Huge" (and yes, they have the word huge in quotations as well) announcement to make on March 1st... im guessing its going to be a "huge" turtle topper, because they've had a MASSIVE amount of requests for a bigger one. I certainly hope its a bigger one anyway.

the current one is like 60 bucks it works really well and it bigger than one might think
