Habitat - Indoor :: Bigger Tank on a Limited Budget.

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I currently have a 2.5in RES in a 20gal tank with a Duetto 100 filter and the proper lighting and basking spots. I want to move him to a larger tank, most likely a 50gal tank. I don't know how much this will cost, but I am on a limited budget. I will also upgrade the filtration by buying a Rena XP3. If I keep the same lighting (1 basking light and 1 UVB light, will that be enough for the 50gal? I'll be placing both lights on the basking area, so the turtle will receive enough heat and UVB. How much should I expect to pay for a 50-70gal tank, and what would be most economical. I want to give my turtle a nice home, but I dont know to break the bank either.

Thanks

How bout you put 10-30% of your income into the tank?

It may be a while, but i have at least a 6 in. in a 20 gal.

My 2.5in turtle already looks cramped in the 20, and I want to upgrade for the future. I will be making my upgrade in about a month, and I just wanted to know what I could expect to pay for something that size, and what my options were.

My 50gal tank with stand was about $100 at SuperPet. Shop around before buying anything. You could also look into rubbermaid storage containers. I got a 46 gal for about $12. You'd have to brace it so it won't bow out tho.

I'd be superhappy if I found a 50-70gal tank w/ stand for $100. With the XP3 (~$100), that would be about $200. That would be a great expansion that my turtle would love, and it won't be to bad on my wallet. I'll look around to find something like that. Is superpet online, or only local?

Keep an eye on sites like www.freecycle.org and www.craigslist.com

There is someone in Columbus who is offering a 55 gallon tank for 50 bucks and it comes with the stand. So, you can find some really great deals.

If you go over to the right side, you have to find the US link...I can go check Nashville though, I didn't think to look...I was just giving examples.

I meant I just checked www.superpet.com. Can't find a US link there.

Also check the garage sales on craigslist. Sometimes you'll see one advertising tanks; I picked up a 75 gallon tank for $30 at one this weekend.

Also, just because people aren't posting a link to give away or sell a tank doesn't mean they don't want too. You could always post a request...
