Habitat - Indoor :: Fluval 4 Plus Troubles

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I've decided to stay on the frugal side in purchasing for my turtle, and I was told this one was the best bang for the buck. However, it's been hell trying to place facing up in the bottom of my tank.

I tried placing the foot of the filter in first, then laying down the head, and that finally worked. However, the clogging indicator rises, but I'm pretty sure it's working the way it's supposed to (gushing out water, making slight splashing noises, etc). Not to sound like a total idiot, but how would you fix this problem?

Ah, yes...the rising Fluval 4+...there are a few threads on this, if you look. I have one that I used for a while. It works, but depending on the size of your tank and turtle, you may have been better off with something else.

Your problem is that the body rises out of the water? If so, what I used to do is tie a flat rock to the top of it to keep it under water (I called Hagen and was actually told to place a rock on it to keep it submerged until the media got saturated with water. It never submerged totally, and after a cleaning I'd just be stuck with it floating again, so therefore the tied-on rock.)

Someone else who has one complained about the clogging indicator rising, but it it's a new filter or has recently been cleaned, clogging wouldn't be the problem. I'm wondering if the reason it wants to float (air in it) has something to do with the rising clogging indicator...
