Habitat - Indoor :: Another lighting question

I have a 115 gallon tank that I am moving my two res to this week. My tank is stand is one piece including the top, where the tank slides in from behind. I purchased a powersun 160 flood for the tank. I have read alot of the other posts and wonder if I can keep it 16" from the dock. Any suggestions? Thanks

Per this site, the recommended distance is 18 inches from a 160 watt UVB flood.

Also, the packaging for the bulb should indicate the safe distance.

Double check the heat on the basking area too. Those MVB's are pretty powerful!

100 watt uvb light? What model are we talking? i think with the 100 watt reference your refering to a basking light. I have mine about 14" away and it's a basking light

with a clamp cover. how would i mount the lamp 14" from the basking area?

I hope you know this isn't a mercury vapor bulb---it says it's full spectrum, but it doesn't say it emits UVB rays. You could have used a regular lightbulb for heat instead of this bulb You need to make sure that 14" away is a good distance, and to do this you need to check the temp with a thermometer. A basking area temp of 88-90F is good. Your turtle still needs a UVB light, though.

Marisa is, of course, right on here. The light is nothing more then a basking bulb. You will still need to provide a UVB light ontop of that.
