Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

hi, i'm new to the forum. i was looking back at older posts about RES sleeping habits and wasn't too clear on what to do about the light during the night. My turtles love to nap under the basking light during the day, but I was wondering if I should leave it on at night. Do I completely leave them in the dark while i'm sleeping, do i provide some sort of minimal lighting, or do i leave the basking light on 24/7? Any advice would be appreciated

Not sure about minimal lighting and having them completely dark (I leave it pitch black at night), but what I know for sure is, you shouldn't have your basking lights on more than 12 hours a day, it's best to mimic your basking light to what times the sun rises and sets, as if they were living outside. I have mine on a timer, less than 12 hours a day.

turtles dont need a night light, and even some night lights are harmful to turtles.

turn the lights out...witht he lights on MINE tend to wanna be up all night, even if they take little turtle naps during the day. As soon as I turn the lights out they go right to bed (in their respective corners...i know cause i sneaked in on them once). They need the darkness to get a nice sleep...don't be afraid to turn the lights out.
