Habitat - Indoor :: Smaller tank at school

Im a student who lives on campus during the school year. Im currently at home now. My turtle has a large tank at home, but i was thinking of getting him a smaller tank so he could come to school with me or maybe another same sized tank altogether. That way i could bring him to school with me and i can take care if him myself rather then haveing my mom and sisters do it. I might go the rubbermaid tub route with him, cheaper and easier to carry. I was wondering if this would be a good idea or if it might put to much stress on the turtle. thanks a bunch.

It wouldnt hurt as long as you make the trip as stress free as possible,but the moving into a smaller tank..doesnt sound like a good idea,why cant you take the tank you have home with you?

I might be able to. im thinking rubbermaid type tub same size. Just lighter for easier transportation. That way i could had a home for him in both places. Im not sure yet. As i said before I orignaly was not gonna take him with me to school, but i would feel better if he was under my care the entire time.

True,rubbermaids are better than tanks (in my opinion) they are easier to carry and are a hell of a lot cheaper.I dont think it will hurt him to live with you at school as long as you provide him with the right needs which you probably already do.If you feel better with him being under your watch,then..go for it.How far is the school from your house? I bet its freezing in new york so if he'll go on a road trip with you id find a small box and finding a way to keep him warm for the trip.Somebody else might have better info on this though,good luck!

Thanks. I dont live far from school maybe 20-30 mintues. So not far but far enough i dont come home every weekend. Yeah i plan on reserching, (lol im such a google nerd) on how to transport him safely.

Th only problems i could see would be the the basking dock. The one i have suction cups to the tank wall. And i read that they will not attach to plastic tub sides. Does anyone know of a good basking dock that could be used? Like a floating one or one that wouls attach to the top of the tub. I thinking I could make on if i tried. LOL. I can be quite handy.

Lol,my dock has suction cups and it attaches to the plastic tub just fine.

I agree that you would not want to go to a smaller tank. A rubbermaid might be the way to go, or even a smallish stock tank (if you have the room). Maybe if the suction cups don't work on the plastic, maybe you could somehow clip it to the top of the container?

another thing my vet suggested to me, was to take a ziplock about 1/2 full of warm water, and putting it on the bottom of the bag, this will allow the container and area to mantain a warmer temperature.
