Habitat - Indoor :: Rubbermaid tub Tank

Ok I have decided to rig up a "rubbermaid" tub type thing for my turtles at college home. I have read on may posts that you need braceres for the tubs because they will bow out with that much water in them. I was just wondering if there where any types of plastic tubs that would not do this? May be a different brand such as Sterlite that wont bow out? Also will suction cups still work in these tubs? Also will i submerged water heater melt the plastic? sorry for all the question just wanna make sure im doing the best for my baby. Thanks.

pretty much anything will bow out and eventually break if it's not given proper support to relieve the pressure. it helps to watch the water pressure and ensure you don't overfill it. most large tanks have a piece in the centre to ensure the pressure is distributed evenly, you can maybe rig something up similar to that.

and yes, suction cups do work

a little heat won't hurt, just make sure it's got good distance from the surface and doesn't get too hot. rubbermaid containers are generally very thick plastic, but it's still susceptible to burning. basically, i would do a bit of testing before i thought to put the little ones in there.

If they are filled more than half-way, they will bow quickly and significantly. Really, a plastic stock tank is the best alternative. No bowing, easy to clean and a wider range of sizes.

Plastic is plastic is plastic. Plastic with Sterlite printed on it is has the same chemical composition as plastic with Rubbermaid printed on it.

Like steve said, stock tanks. They can be found at farming supply stores. Try Tractor Supply and stores like it. Basically they're tanks that the horses eat out of or are used to store a ton of water.

I live in Markham, Toronto, Ontario, Canada (lol) and I was wondering where I could get one of these stock tubs... I don't really see many farming supply stores up here >< help?

Here is a list of every feed and supply store in your area. What you're looking for is called a "stock tank". They come in various sizes from 50 gallons to 300 gallons. Call to confirm they carry them, then drive down and check them out. My 160 gallon one is bigger than my bathtub and is about the size of a love seat. It cost me 100 bucks.

Because of lack of space right now, and because of the fact that i don't think i need 100+ gall, I'll probably stick to my rubbermaid for now >< thanks anyways =P
