hey guys,

i recently ran into a rreally bad algae bloom in my water and it turn it GREEn to where i couldnt see my turtle it was nasty...

So i went to pets mart to get a diatom filter, but my locate pets mart didnt have one but the fish guy recommanded using a uv filter. bascially it uses a uv light, to kill anything that pass by it.

It slowly got rid of my algae problem now my water is crystal clear! also it gets rid of any parasites present or anything bigger then a single cell organism. so beneifcal bacterica is still alive!

Most people with big ponds use this as a solution to algae, and alot of people who are into fish use this as a method to keep there water extra clean.

i got the laguna uv filter. I hook it up to my xp3 and it works great!

i got mine for super cheap the lady at the cashier screwed up on it so i bascially only got it for 2 bucks..

it cost $120.
if you check online i think theres one for about 30 bucks? but its an internal filter

For anyone who has a algae problem or want super clean water and is looking for a long term solution

try a uv filter.

Two dollars! Wow, did you run out of the store with your UV filter after reading the receipt?

EDIT: A question, does this UV filter eliminate all/most forms of algae, or only a specific kind? For example:

Algae that makes the water murky and green, or
Solid brown/green algae that is formed on the glass of a tank?

I've seen similar ones in my local fish shop and it sort of works fine.

In addition to a UV filter, a phosphate reactor would be handy. Just make sure you introduce it to the system properlly as a full dose of the anti-phos can shift the Ph/Kh.

I'd like one, but they're pretty high up there....$70+. Maybe for next Christmas.. I still don't get how it works. lol

They emit UVC light that kills the microbes and simple parasites. Most UVC light from the Sun never reaches the Earth's surface... but they are useful for water sterilization

it gets rid of most forms of algae specficly GREEN ALgae that makes your water green. and if you have it on before you have algae present in your tank. youll never get algae unless your water is serious screwed up.

and my tank is kinda near a window but it doesnt get any light from it i think it was when i didnt have my blinds on for a period of time taht turn my wwater super green. its crystal clear now so hopefully it stays that way

Thanks for clarifying that, this will definitely be an option if I ever experience a serious Algae outbreak.
