I finally got that huge rubbermaid tank set up.

I also got a new Stealth heater and a new filter is on the way. The basking dock was a PVC contraption I made with another basking I had in the original tank. It was one of those arches and could only stand about 4 inches high. I cut off one ramp and secured the rest to my hanging dock.

I also have 3 rosy minnows, but my turtle won't touch them and they just make even more mess. I'm going to get rid of them.

In the pictures there are carrots that he won't touch either. I haven't given him carrots in months but they used to be his favortie food next to pellets. His still takes lettuce. I feed him about 15 pellets a day, one fruit pellet, and a shrimp or two.






It also looks like my turtle is finally shedding! I didn't think he was old enough, but he went from about the size of a half dollar to four inches long in one year! He (or she) seems healthy though.

Looks nice! SHE has one of those unique red "drops" on the top of her head. Oh yes, I'm sure your turtle would appreciate if you raised (?) the water level.

SHE huh? I would like to raise the water level but it's about 8 inches, past half the height of the container. It's already bowing a little too. Any more would be pushing it. I am still searching for a cheap fish tank, hopefully a 100 gallon one.

Yup, I really do think that your turtle is female based on the last picture which shows nails and the tail in one shot. If it's temporary, then the water level is fine, but you can brace the rubbermaid containers so they don't bow. Do a search on it or google it. I'm curious if others think if your turtle is female also. (eggs) yay!

Since it's a female, you should get a 120 gallon aquarium, so you don't have to upgrade eer again!!

I like your basking dock mod...I have the same rock bridge and have also had to modify it. Napoleon's had it for 7 years, and when I switched him to a floating dock he refused to bask. So right now his old bridge is standing on two gladware containers full of rocks until I can build braces to make it taller. How did you cut yours?

I used a pneumatic cut-off tool. Any hacksaw should do, this was just quicker.

This shows it before the arch thing was put on. I used 1/2" PVC and fittings.

She's beautiful! I love how she has just a few bright green stripes left on her shell. Nice temp. set up as well, she looks quite content basking there

Interesting basking area. What's the ramp made out of?

The ramp was I dock I got back when I set up the 10 gallon tank. I got comments that it the water level was too low (it sinks and only stands up 4 inches)

So I decided to make use of it again by cutting off one side and attaching it to the PVC thing.



I haven't tried getting that scute off, is it safe to try to peel it?

They look like they are doing a good job coming off... just leave it.

If it were me, I'd carefully lift the edge of that one scute nearest the neck with my pinkie nail and see if it pops off. There's so little holding it. If there was any resistance, I'd stop and just leave it. (But I bet it comes off.) (I'm only talking about that one scute.)
