We have 3 RES aged 5, 5, and 13, so needless to say, they are bigger turtles. I was reading a post somewhere about someone turtle who had injested gravel and was vomiting blood. I do not have gravel on the bottom of my tank but was considering it, but am afraid that my turtles may injest it as well. What is a good, safe bottom filler for my turtle tanks?

All you need is a few of the large, smooth river rocks. They look nice and are easy to clean. Turtles like to play with them too.

Some people have tried sand and I think some have gotten it to work but some have had horrendous experiences - cloudy water, impossible to keep clean.

Gravel is a big hazzard. You are smart not to do it. Here's a couple of links with examples of what can happen:
