Habitat - Indoor :: stand for my new 120

So we picked up this monster aquarium on sunday. We return to my house, and my friend's eyes get really big. She asked if I was planning o putting it where the 75 is, I said yes, and she just shook her head at me. She sid don't do it. I believe her so I am going to build a stand for it so that it doesn't crush the counter. I am thinking along the lines of cinder block with 2 by 4s over it.

With that sucker filled up, it'll weight 1000 lbs! I can't tell if that would properly support it, though it looks like it will.

I would also consider putting something beneath the blocks... like plywood. the 2X4 should be fine too, though it's very important to make sure that it is level and even. Have fun

Just something I thought I'd say from my own previous research regarding support and aquarium weight, check if possible the foundation of the area of floor you're placing the tank in, so that it can safely support the weight. Most homes can, but there are a few that cannot, and it would hurt to have a large hole in the floor in your home (unless it's on the ground floor/basement).

Thanks Pizza! I had my freind's dad look, and he said it would be okay pretty much anywhere except on the counter I was going to put it on. He also thought it was an absolute stitch that I had been planning on putting it there. It seemed pretty sturdy to me, but he thought I was nuts for the 75 being on there, let alone a 120. I didn't think it would be okay on the floor because I can't get it near the load bearing wall, and the floor is mostly supported by beams about a foot apart. The counter is on the load bearing wall, so I thought it would be better. Good think I have people who know these things around!

I was just in this predicament, same size tank too. As for floor supports, my dad didn't think that the floor would hold. If you ever have that problem you can purchase floor jacks for $20 each, (I bought 2 of them) Each of them can bear 10 tons, but fully extended it's probably only 2,000. Cost effective.

I'm going to put my new aquarium on something similar, but my floor is on a concrete slab.

I hope so. If tey don't one will go into the 75. I don't like all the fluttering. Of course it is one sided, an when Spike grows weary of it he baffs Sparky in the face. i just don't want the "go away you bother me" baff to become a bite,
