Habitat - Indoor :: plastic tank

is a glass tank preferable over a plastic one? i just bought a plastic tank to give the turtles more room and I am clipping a light on the side. does anyone have any ideas for a cover for it (i have a plastic one, but i'm afraid it will melt).

How large is the tank you just bought? Plastic tanks from what I know aren't very big, it's best to start out with the largest tank you can afford as turtles grow fast and need a lot of room.

i use wire mesh for mine, just make sure you get the widest mesh so that it doesnt block the prevent the uvb and heat from getting to the basking area...

it's pretty big ... 22-26 Liters

If my math is correct that's only 6 gallons, that's not very large for turtles (how many do you have?). If you have two, you'll want at least a 20-30 gallon tank to start, anything too small will get dirty too quickly and prevent the turtles from having ample swimming room, both of which can cause illness.

oh no it's def not 6 gallons... I just transfered them from a 10 gal tank and it is almost half the size. anyways i don't know how many liters exactly but i calculated it earlier before i ripped off the tag and it's 16.5 gals. it's one of those big storage bins

I think plastic bins are fine for hatchlings, but they will quickly outgrow them.
