Be careful, those look like they're meant for saltwater aquariums. They may need to be slowly acclimated to a freshwater environment. That means gradually diluting the salinity of their water from natural sea water to fresh water. That could take several days to do it properly. I know most saltwater snails are very sensitive to water conditions.

Any time I seem to see/have a snail, I think it's dead. My Mom got me one today and I put it in there and it hasn't moved at all.

i saw the most interesting crabs at walmart today when i went to pick up some rosies. i thought about getting one for a second, but then worried about the war that would follow. turtle vs. crab... hmmm... i'm not liking the picture in my head.

Daredevil- That's too bad to hear about your snails. Depending on where you live you can put the dead ones in the ground in your garden for use as fertilizer.

DavidY- I've heard that acclimating Nerite snails to fresh water is easy and it shouldn't hurt them or their lifespan. Also they aren't supposed to breed in fresh water. Did they work in your saltwater tank?

Cayte923, They did ok in my saltwater tank for a while, but the Astrea and Cerith snails have been the most successful for me. They keep the algae mowed down and reproduce in my setup. I don't know if those species can be acclimated to freshwater or not, but then again, I wouldn't have thought of doing that with Nerites either. Maybe I'll try slowly acclimating one of them and see how it goes. I will post the results if I do.
