Habitat - Indoor :: need your opinion

I am so confused. I have gotten alot of good information from you guys, but I'm still scratching my head. I just purchased a 55 gallon tank for my cutie pie, and it is sitting in my apartment empty. I am hoping to get it up and running this weekend. I am looking for a filter that is efficient, my utility bill w/o a filter is over 300 now(that includes gas and electric) and I don't want it to sky rocket even more. Would you recommend the Hagen AquaClear 110 Aquarium Power Filter? If not any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

the filter isn't going to use up as much energy as the lighting.

i have a marineland penguin filter 350gph. it's an out of tank type, but i got in on special. whisper seems to be a good one too, but the most recommended seems to be fluval.

a word of advice, this gets mentioned a lot too... turtle create more waste than fish so you will want to get a filter that's a HIGHER grade than the one for your habitat. i have one that's rated for a 70 gallon, i have 50 gallons in my tank. most people recommend getting a filter that's 3x the rating. i think it was 3, i'll let someone jump in on that one.

Do you have the Marineland Magnum 350, it got great reviews on petco.com
I also noticed everyone seems to love the rena xps, it's on sale for 129.

okay weirddddddddddd i posted a responce and somehow it's managed to completely disappear

i was recommended a canister filter, i only got this one because of the special. i paid more for the filter than is advertised on that site, but i still wound up saving on my overall bill because it knocked the price of my tank down from $109 to $50. i only paid an extra $15 for the filter, small price for that cut on the tank, though.

Thanks for your help, I think I am going to a little pet store tomorrow to see what price I can get. I can't wait to get this thing up an running.. I plan I taking lots of pictures. I can't believe it's already 1:15 am... I'm going to bed.

You should also check on the net. I got my xp3 filter from pet solutions for 89.99 + shipping and it still came up less then if I would have got it from the pet store. And it works great, it keeps the water crystal clear.

I just ordered it, the petco and other petstores in my area don't carry the xp3, I ordered it from petsolutions but the price was 99.99, still better than petco online.
