Is your light sitting on top of a glass cover? If so, did you know the UV rays won't penetrate glass? You'll need to make sure there is no glass between the light and where the turtle basks in order for him/her to get the benefit of the UV, which is essential for his/her survival.

What kind of light is it, by the way? For a tank your size you probably are going to have to have two bulbs - a UVB bulb (probably fluorescent) and a heat bulb (incandescent).

Lastly, how is the temp inside the tank with the glass cover over the top? I wonder if it isn't getting very hot in there what with the water heater and the light. I assume there is a heater in there though i can't see it.

I can see the heater, Yeah you need two lights, a UVB and UVA light. UVB is important, without it your turtle can become ill overtime. UVA is just heat - therefore, you can use a normal house hold light bulb (those special "reptile basking lamps arent neccesary, I dont know why..but i have a feeling that is what you have right now).

That is a regular lightbulb that I use to heat the basking area, so the glass doesn't matter, but I am aware of that. I have a separate outdoor set-up I use for both turts UVB requirements.
It's 78 in the water. The top doesn't really effect that since it's cooler in the house anyway. I get a lot less evaporation, though. And it probably keeps the basking area warmer. I changed the basking area the same time I put the glass top on, so I'm not sure.

No, not really. It's bad for the tank. I need to get a piece of wood to the size of the tank, then the tank will sit on the wood, the wood will sit on the stand.

Not a chance. That is a regular 60 watt lightbulb. I think it's even a generic brand...

Reptile basking bulbs are just too expensive in my opinion. A regular light bulb will work just fine and its a hell of alot cheaper. But hey, its up to the person - theres nothing wrong with those reptiles bulbs, except that so many new turtle owners get fooled into thinking that those bulbs provide UVB, oh..and they cost around 5$ when you could just get a normal light bulb for 1$ .

I'm not too clear, but if it is resting on glass, then it can also overheat. Also, it could be making the basking area too humid, and I don't recall that being a good thing.
