Habitat - Indoor :: looks like dude is peeling

Dude, who is about 41/2 inches long seems to be peeling from his neck and limbs. He doesn't seem to bask, in fact, I have never seen him bask since we got him about a week ago. I have taken him outside to cruz in the sun on a daily basis b/c I'm so worried he might get shell rot or something.

We don't have a heater in the tank either, but we live in Hawaii where it is very warm and the tank temperature stays at about 78 degrees.

What can we do about the peeling? Everytime we place him back into the tank, some of the dead skin comes off and dirty the just cleaned tank.

turtles shed skin. just like snakes and whatnot. too much peeling is bad tho. im not quite sure what would qualify as excessive peeling; someone else can answer that. but peeling is normal.

also dont worry about the basking. mine didnt bask for 3 weeks after i got her. now she does all the time. so dont worry. once she's comfortable, she'll bask.

I think it may be a case of overfeeding. Maybe the pet shop or people who had him before were giving him too much. Water that is too warm will also cause it. As long as its whitish, stringy pieces, don't worry about it. Excessive shedding (large thick pieces of skin coming off with ulcers underneath could be a problem tho'.....
