Habitat - Indoor :: New Toy

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Post Posted: Wed May 30, 2007 8:11 pm   New Toy

Ok for those of you that don't know us (tertle and I) we have lots of Turtles we have added 2 more to our clan making 8 total. So we have lots of lights on making lots of humidity in our apartment, so we bought a dehumidifier. Its 30 pint one, has anyone else ever used on and how well do they work. I need to find a way to get rid of some of this moister in the apartment.

Dehumidifiers work REALLY well. We used to use one in are basement, before we got our French drain, and they work great!! They do fill up pretty fast though, so see if you can get one that you can attach a hose to, and have it drain somewhere. Or you will be dumping it ALLOT!

We have only drained it once but we just bought it Monday.
And since the lights aren't on at night there isn't much humidity at night

The dehumidifier I have raises the temperature of the room it's running in. I tried using it in the basement one summer and it made the entire basement very hot and dry so i stopped using it. If you get an air conditioner, you will get both dehumidification and cooling. So what did you guys get for new turtles? :)

I remember Three Mile Island well. It was "The China Syndrome" for real.

Now who remembers "The China Syndrome"?

That was a movie based on that exact scenario of a meltdown at a nuclear power plant and it came out before the Three Mile Island incident, right? I remember they called it the China Syndrome because it was theorized that an uncontrolled nuclear meltdown would continue to burn a hole through the earth straight down to the earth's core (sarcastically known as digging a whole straight through to China).

I never saw the movie though 'cause I was too young and that kind of stuff didn't interest me back then. :? I remember the previews for it though.

Yea, I remembered it was pretty strange that it happened like that. There was a brief resurgence in the hippie movement too after that happened. lol!

We got them at the flea market again :( I know we are crazy. One had some shell rot and the other had all the scutes. so we have been taking care of the rot and that is doing much better and they are much happier, and the one with the handicap (scuter) swims wonderfully even with only 3 legs.
