Habitat - Indoor :: nesting

So I went to the petstore tonight and $90 later came out with a bunch of goodies for all the kiddies at home. For my girls they are almost 3 and starting to exhibit signs of wanting to nest, I got some repitle sand and compose mixture like bark and leaves really shredded up. I want to put this in my old 20 gallon tank and tuck it in a queit spot and set them up to nest. Do you think this will be ok if I put one in at a time several times a day?

Sorry I didn't answer this before but my human kid need to have surgery everything is back to normal now. Anyway they are 7 inches and 8 inches. I put them into the tank my themselves they dig bury themselves my still no eggs. Do you think I jumping the gun and they are not mature yet?

I'm glad your human kid is doing well after surgery.

My turt is a male but I gather that a gravid female displays some marked behavior. She gets extremely anxious to get out of her tank and she tries to dig with her back legs. Yes after reading the links (thanks for those) I feel Shelley is really showing signs of wanting to nest. She gets restless for 2 or 3 days and then calms down. When I put her in the nesting tank she digs for hours but so far no eggs. We have been doing this for about 1 1/2 months, now I am concerned that maybe we should go to the vet. Max our other turtle is pretty laid back she walks around the nesting tank and kind of digs but more like exploring no real interest in nesting. I wish Shelley would just lay the eggs already. I am so worried about her.

Why don't you take Shelley in to see the vet. Make sure the vet knows about reptiles. See if you can get an x-ray - that will tell you for sur what's going on. If she needs to lay but is having trouble, the vet can administer a drug to help her lay, sort of like inducing labor.
