Habitat - Indoor :: your preference?

so after i take nimrod to the vet, im going to re-do nimrods tank, make it real nice for him.

but i think i need a new basking area because the one i have takes up wayyy too much space, and he is just so little, and it doesnt float very well, and i think i saw nimrod attempting to eat it not too long ago.
so what are your preferences for basking areas?
home-made ones?
if home made ones.. what do i need to make it?

out of tank basking spots?



i already have the heater in mind.. the visi-therm stealth heater.



and when i feed him, im thinking about feeding him in a different container because he is very messy,
do you prefer to feed your turtle seperatly or in his/her tank?



i just want everything to be good for him, especially during his recovery!

I like the stealth heater.

I feed my turtles in the tank, because they don't leave much behind and poop a lot anyway. But in your case if you're trying to keep the tank as clean as humanely possible, feeding in a separate container is probably smart.

Napoleon likes his above tank basking spot, which is basically a wooden box built to fit completely around the outside edge of the tank, but a stop at each corner to keep it on top. The basking spot itself is a ceramic tile cut to size to rest on the inner lip of my tank. If you don't have the time or resources to build something, a lot of people like those premade plexiglass ones. I've heard that they're sturdier than the zoomed floating ones.

well right now im trying to keep it as clean as possible because nimrod has a respiratory infection, and i dont want anything to interfere {spelling?} with his recovery!

but i think to stress him out less i will just keep him in the tank and give him food there.


and im thinking about making an outside of the tank basking spot because for now my tank is only ten gallons { my turtle is also very small! }
and since its summer, i have plenty of time to make one =p
and i think i have seen napoleons basking spot, its very cool=]

At the moment, I've been feeding my RES in his tank. But when he gets older, I'll probably switch to a separate container for feeding. It's just that, for now, I want him to be as comfortable as possible, and removing him from his tank tends to mess up his mood.
