Can you get a UVB as actual bulb or is it only available as a long tube fluorescent light?

On the UVA light, does it need to be a certain wattage?

UVA, or your regular household bulb can be whatever wattage that you need it to be. You want to make sure that it is a safe distance away, and that it can't be splashed by water. From there, your wattage will depend on what it takes to heat the basking area to the right temp.

Your turtle could develop metabolic bone disease without one. You can use direct sunlight when it is warm outside but a UVB fluorescent bulb will last for about 6 months and costs around $22.

No. Turtles will only absorb the amount the need.

the light fitting i brought came with a normal aquarium bulb, which is no good to turtles, cost me about $100NZD, and my 8% UVB bulb cost me about $60NZD (i think USD is about 2/3? or 1/2?)

$60? Is NZD similar to AUD? That seems like a lot! Are reptiles not very common pets in NZ?

NZD is about 90% of the AUD.. 60 NZD is about $40 USD hehe

turtles arn't really as common as most pets..

I was at Wal-Mart today and stumbled upon these UV sunlight light bulbs they were low wattage and were fluorescent. They were 5 bucks. Just wondering if I should buy some. Also saw a digital thermometer that had a probe you can stick in the water to see the temperture thinking I might pick that up if its still their since it was only 5 bucks as well.
