Habitat - Indoor :: Excited! Getting a new tank! :)

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Post Posted: Thu Apr 26, 2007 3:52 am   Excited! Getting a new tank! :)

I've been itching to get an upgrade for my two 3 inch sliders (they are currently in a 55g) and yesterday I found a great deal on a 2nd hand site here in NL. I've been trying to think of how I could upgrade them and actually fit a larger tank in our house. We live in a 2 bedroom flat with quite a few pets and space is limited. As much as I'd love to have a tank that is 1.5 or 2 meters in length I just honestly wouldn't be able to fit it in here without seriously overcrowding the house.

So yesterday I saw an ad for this tank (sorry the pic isn't that great)
Image

It's a 360L (95 gal) corner aquarium and we went to look at it last night. It's in FANTASTIC condition and is less than a year old. It has the same background (juwel background) as in our 180L tank which means that they will match and look a little better together in our livingroom.

The tank is still under warranty and they will be giving us the original reciept etc. The only reason the guy is getting rid of it is because he breeds these big chichlid fish and decided he preferred a long 2m aquarium to the corner aquarium.

The juwel background that he has in there are 45 euros each and there are 4 of them in there. Which is almost 150 euros worth of background alone and the tank new with the stand is over 600 euros. We are getting the whole thing for 250 euros!! YAY!

I won't be able to use it right away, as I'll have to wait until we have money for a good filter for it... but I still can't wait. We are also planning a nice big above tank basking area for it so we can keep it fully filled. We'll probably try to make it match our other above tank basking area as much as possible so the two tanks look nice in our house :)

I'll keep ya's posted after I get it home and we start putting it together etc!

oh wow. Are tanks usually that expensive there? when are you getting it?

Edit: I guess its not that bad of a price for a 90 gallon, but it is used... have you tried to beat him down on the price?

Everything is more expensive over here haha

The tank new (together with the backgrounds) was over 700 euros (about 950 USD) and it's still under warranty and less than a year old. There was no way I was getting him lower than 250 euros :P

You can't really compare by doing currency conversions, things are totally different over here. A 500L (120g) aquarium together with a stand would run you at least 600-700 euros, and that's not including a filter and all the other stuff. There isn't nearly as much competition over here as in the US so it's easy for them to have high prices.

Also, we have 2nd hand sites but nothing like craigslist and all that.

I still consider it a great deal :)

Bow front tanks are always more expensive, plus you need to get a matching cabinet for it to fit in a corner. I don't know if that's a good deal or not, but it looks like a nice setup.....

I have an update, the tank is home and we finally got the stand back together (well except for one door we left off to make it easier setting up the filter). I took a few pics to show where it is etc. It looks smaller in the pics than it does for real.

This shows it in my livingroom, you can see my 55g on the left with the above tank basking area. I will be moving my 1.5 inch eastern painted in there once I get my sliders into the corner tank.

This is hubby being silly and doing his 'rawr I am man hear me roar' thing haha He makes the tank look small because he's so tall. When I stand in front of it the top of the tank comes up to my nose. I'll need a step stool to do stuff in it and even then I won't be able to touch the bottom, this will be a challenge!

Yesterday we went shopping and got a 300 watt heater and an Eheim 2028 filter for it. So today I will start filling it up and getting it ready, I'm so excited! For the first while they will just have a cork bark basking area in the back corner while we design and build their above tank basking area. I also realized today that I have hardly anything to put inside it! It's going to be quite bare for the first while but I wouldn't DARE try to dish out any more money on this aquarium this month hehe

Wow that looks great! It might be a little hard to clean but it has such a large swimming area for the turtles, they are going to love it i'm sure! Be sure to post some pics of the happy turtles once you get it all set up! :D

Because it's a textured background that goes inside the tank, not just one of those ones you tape onto the back hehe
