I made my above tank basking area last night. I must say that egg crate stuff is really sharp when it breaks... Anyway here it is. I'm planning to get some reptile carpet this week too. Bubbles is tentatively curious about it (I'm trying to entice her up with the lettuce), but I think my moving everything around really freaked her out a bit. She hasn't gotten up yet, but I've caught her on the ramp. I've put up up some black pieces of cardboard to try and make her feel more secure. Also have you all had any problems with your turtles climbing the egg crate? I have a cover for it but I'm worried about her climbing it then falling onto the platform.

Made this with Lexan. Turned out to be a pain, as it is was way too thin. Not enough surface area for the glue. Easy to work with otherwise. Applying the acrylic sealant on all the joints really helped sturdy it up. Used standard turf I bought from Home Depot in the carpet department. Between the Lexan and turf this was a $40 project. I already had the glue and sealant. Used a table saw to cut the Lexan and a Dremel to cut the holes for the filter tubes. Used a heat gun to bend the "on-ramp" up to the basking area.

Nicely done Edie and eventHorizon! I guess you will have to wait to see how she reacts to it. You can attach thin sheets of acrylic to keep her from climbing it if that becomes an issue.

Very nice! I thought I saw 3 turtles in there :) Could you move the UVB closer to the basking area?

Hi All - I hadnt checked in here in at least a year. I just scrolled through many pages of ATBA's and was super psyched to see that a few folks have built their own version of the ATBA that I built a couple years ago. Super cool. The video I posted of it has gotten an awful lot of hits on youtube, and I still get multiple emails a week asking for input on how to build one. My turtle is doing great and is starting to outgrow the 55Gal tank, so in the not too distant future I will have to build a new one for a bigger tank. I'll shoot a comprehensive how-to when that happens...

With my basking area, I used a natural log that I cleaned/dried for a year (In the event of getting waterlogged, I have several more backup logs). On either side of the log, I strapped pairs of regular floating docks to prevent the turtle from sinking them. I replicate this on a larger scale in the summer pond. My UVB bulb just died, so sorry about that.

Very nice Jeremiah! Did you ever post pics of the pond? I don't recall seeing it.

Good job TurtlesOwner! The grass looks great, what are you using?

Thx Steve :)!

This is exactly the type of grass mat I use, I think it can be found easily at any dollar store. :D
