Ebay or aquatraders.com a cfs500 good for up to 100 gallons is only 58 bucks on there . Or you can get a sunsun off ebay about the same price :) canisters are very much worth it !! OOr build a diy wet dry or trickle tower sump . Look them up on youtube . Very cheap and effective !

You seem quite familiar with these. Nice! Will look up and see how I can install an efficient filtration. Thanks!

Man, these are all so awesome and I'm super excited to make my own turtle topper for little Sedge!

So I was thinking of using materials mainly comprised of:
plexiglass, glued together with aquarium glue
Some synthetic plants and maybe turtle turf

Does that sound effective and safe? I have two cats, so I'm a little leary of an open top. But depending on how it goes I might be able to make it cat proof without a cover.

Thoughts? It is going to be on a 20 gal long.

Aquarium glue (silicone) will not last very long with plexiglass. There are a few options with closed tops, though that really depends on how high the water level will be.

Don't they sell aquarium glue for plexiglass aquariums, too? I thought aquarium glue was what people were using for these. Some of the posts have talked about pvc glue, but I'm not clear on how safe it is.

I imagine I could only use plexiglass on top if I cut out holes for the lights or something. I'm thinking it might be easier to make high walls instead of a top.

If you want to make something of plexiglass, you'll need a special glue or adhesive for it. It'll probably be some sort of acrylic cement. Only use silicone on rigid surfaces, like glass or tile. Do you have a drawing or sketch of your idea?

Yeah, I was looking into weldon #4, supposedly it is OK once dry...

I don't have a drawing yet, but when I have one I will post it here! I can't really work on it until I move in a couple months. Thanks!

I love all the eggcrate ideas! Everyone is so creative.

I am just wondering if anybody had any suggestions as to what I can use to cover the eggcrate so my turtle has an easier time climbing the ramp

I have used chloroform to bind two pieces of acrylic/plexiglass. It's been 6 months now and its working perfect
