Looks great! I tried something like this but was having a hard time with hard water eating away at the metal mesh material you have in your pictures... you have any issues with this yourself (doesn't seem that way from the pics)?

My wife and I moved into our first apartment a couple of months ago, thought I would share some pictures. :) Just cleaned their tanks today. Not much has changed with either habitat besides some cosmetic things largely.

Hickory (Western Painted) in his 40 gallon breeder. I gave him free run of the den today while I was cleaning and he loved it! :) He followed me around like a puppy the entire time:

Winnie (African Sideneck) in her 70 gallon. Having trouble with natural light and algae build-up near the basking sandbox, but I'm not sure if there is any health risk for her. I try to clean it up weekly:

Oh, and these aquarium stands kick butt. Super sturdy and really easy to put together (if you knew me you'd understand what a statement that is coming from me, lol).

Also, pro-tip for any prospective African Sideneck caretakers: be prepared to disassemble and clean your canister filter tubes often... they shed their skin like crazy and it clogs them up.

My setups are awfully plain. If I do ever get a new setup, I promise to post pics :D

Would a finer strainer catch more of shed skin?

Haha, yay! :)

And that is a good idea - any idea what materials I might use to construct one? The only problem though is that if it's too fine it won't allow other larger debris through and the water potentially won't be as clean.

I'm not sure if there's a complete solution here, but it's actually clogging up the tubes?

Nothing yet and it's been years. Unless you mean the screen cause that was new since I got a bigger tank. Nothing yet on that either though.

Not yet. The tank is currently too small to take in another basking area. They're in a 5.5 galloon tank (16 in x 8 in x 10 in).
