the lamp gets quite hot, and is abour 18 inches from the basking area, one thing i noticed is that the light gives off a strait beam of light and heat.

question the long bulbs repto 5.0 these give of uva and uvb?

Yes. It should say on the box that it's UVA and UVB.

gonna post new pics soon, just a quick update, today i got rid of all the rocks and put sand in the tank, i picked up new basking docks and fixed my lighting issue! i must say i think that it looks nice. once the water clears up ill put some pics!

Is the sand really hard to clean? Or haven't you had to clean it yet? I just have a barebottom tank and I just feel as though it needs something. I've been looking for ideas. Although I like how much cleaner my tank is without anything on the bottom. I also really like the egyption theme, I wish that I could do something like that with my tank but Brooks likes to destroy things so I'm thinking that the possiblity of having "nice" things is just out of the question.

Yes DavidY, she is a little devil She keeps live plants such as hornwort in her tank but nothing else. Last week I added some rosy reds to entertain her for a little bit (and also for her to munch on) well there was a dozen and now there's 1. I guess that it's the smartest one of the bunch But yeah as far as decoration she has a couple but takes great pleasure in moving them everywhere other than where I originally put them. She's so cute though I just let her be. I just want to add a little something that's sort of a safe haven for the rosy reds so they last a little longer than a couple of days not to mention that they clean the bottom of my tank very well! I was so surprised at the amount of "mess" that was gone once I added them....I love it!

no the sand is easy to clean. i have a gravel vacume and lots of extra sand. they like digging up the egyption things i takes them about a wek to get them knocked over, then i fix it and they look at me like"i worked hard to knock that over" lol then they do it again.

Wow, that looks great! I love the Egyptian look. How does the sand not clog your filter? I've looked into to something like that for when I get Mikey his big tank, but I wasn't sure about the maintenance and whatnot.

The colours make the tank look like a rock stage. Maybe you should start lining their foods with caviar, and having a lil' dish of beer on the dock.
