No, the grains are small and will pass easily.

The tank looks great!! I can't really see the ATBA though. Is it just plexiglass? Just make sure it's high enough so the turt can't climb out. I like it soo much better with the background, it really makes the sand pop. Are you sure it's a 50 gallon and not a 40 breeder or a 55 long? I've never heard of a 50 gallon tank, especially from petsmart :?:

We used our rocks for the yard. You could also save them for another herp tank.

its just plexiglass, i built a new one. and no, torti can't get out of this one, its fool proof ;)

yes, i'm sure its 50 gallons. i had to call a couple of stores before i finally found one!

I was told that sand was hard to clean so I got some rocks.
2 dogs
1 cat
2 turtles (hatchlings)
1 son (11 months)
1 boyfriend (also a hatchling)

A bed of rocks isn't really a good substrate. The poo sinks below the rocks to the point where you can't see it. It builds up really fast and can have a negative affect on your nitrite/nitrate levels. A good way to tell is either look under the tank, or rustle around the rocks and see if a bunch of gunk comes out.

From who? sand is easy to clean. It's dense and poo settles on top, rather then getting trapped under the rocks for easy pick up.
