If you're getting the floating basking dock, you don't need to make an addition to it. If there's carpet on that type of dock, the carpet will mold very quickly because part of it will always be in the water.

Blulite: Please DO NOT put a heat mat on your basking area. It's dangerous for your turtle. If your turtle climbs up there wet, he can electrocute himself. All you need to keep the basking area warm is a regular house bulb. Please do not put a heat mat on your basking dock.

Ok,well I meant and got that basking dock.I'm gonna take out my other one,and I'm gonna take out the gravel, because my parents wouldn't let me,but I'm gonna do it now, since I'm redoing the setup.Anyway, besides getting the basking dock,I got:A log that has holes in it that they can hide in,and I got a little green plant.I'll post a pic. a.s.a.p.

Here is a pic of my tank...I still am going to get a few more plants for the turtles to hide in and my brother is bringing over some foliage and a few large plastic rocks to spice up the basking area. A bit more sand was added to hide the white strip on the background and add sand mounds. The floating dock was removed and am building a new rest area.

This is my basking setup, i used a piece of wedge shaped plastic and stuck it inder the platform them stuck a rectangualr piece of perspex to the wedge so it sloped into the water.

When i was starting out and only had one Turt in a 4ft tank this is what i used for a basking area, just a few cleaned broken up slabs positioned securely underneath the lamps but easy enough for her to climb out and dry out on.

Sanoske,

I used a heat gun and went back and forth on the area that I wanted to bend. Then I gently bent the acrylic to the angle I wanted. I hope that helped.

aquarium silicone or epoxy works well.

I use a cutting disk on my dremel. but you can use a jigsaw depending on thickness, and if its 1/8 or less, you can cut it by scoring it with a razor blade, and then snapping it against an edge.

craigal and chrisinva,

It was 3/8" thick acrylic and as far as getting it to stick together I used standard hot glue. The areas that are underwater and will have constent touch to water I used aquarium silicone. To cut the acrylic, I used a dremel with a cutting bit. The cutting bit gave me a little more control and less acrylic remnants then the cutting disk.

It only took about 5 min or so, maybe less. But to be sure I let it go for about 15-20 minutes or until the acrylic was cool enough to handle.
