A floating dock is ok,i use one and you need two lamps one that carrys a UVB bulb and another that carrys a normal house bulb (for heat,that is what you use to heat the basking area) for the water,a water heater is fine set it to 78 degrees and they'll be ok.Aim both lamps to the dock.The basking lamps should be on for atleast 12 hours,8 AM to 8 PM.

Do i need a clamp lamp to heat it? These are just like little spot lights that 'clamp' to the side, right?

You dont need one to heat it up but its cheaper than going out and buying a normal desk lamp for 30$..and yes they clamp on to the side.

the blue thing on the bottom is what will attach to the tank. You squeeze the 2 little "arms" together to get it to open, and that will let you clamp it to your tank. I can take pics if you want.

That would help...would this work on one of these rubbermaid containers?
