Not sure what it can be, but I would test the water and monitor it for now.

Everything was perfect when I checked it a few minutes ago.
But there is some weird slimy brown stuff on some of the ornaments.
Should I scrub it off?

Could I do a 25% water change?

Would it be okay to get a few of those small cat fish that only get to be 2-3 inches?
The ones that school?

You can try having white skirt tetras and black skirt tetras. They are pretty fast and turtles are most likely unable to catch them. I placed different types of fishes before, platies, guppies, pleco, and other types of tetras but they couldn't survive long in the tank.

My baby turtle hasn't been able to catch anything but the occasional ghost shrimp so far.
My worries have had to be if the fish will nip at him.
My four giant Danio's have scared me a few times by swimming close to him, and he kicks them away.

My danios are fin nippers, so any fish with a long tail/fin are a no-no in my tank. I learned it the hard way with having goldfish.

Edit:: I just looked at the Tetra's, and I may try 5-6 of them since they are schooling fish.

I believe your baby turtle wouldn't get hurt by your danios. Their skins are pretty tough after all, so it should be fine.

In my personal opinion no fish in ay turtle tank unless there Chinese sucker fish or you could try really really large goldfish anything else will be eaten by your tert.then again I could be wrong that's just my experience.

I know, been through that! You'll feel much assured when your baby turtle starts to turn the table. Now whenever my male res gets irritated of my fish getting close to him, he'll try to chase after and nip them instead. He's like the boss in the tank now, he even tries to attack my Koi(s)which are larger than him.

I'm really excited for the day he starts trying to go after fish. I figure if I get some fish he'll soon realize that he can get them. He's not even 2inches in width yet.

This weekend I'm going to get my two new Robo Dwarf hamsters and while I'm there I will pick up some fish like I mentioned.

I want him to go after the fish.
The whole reason for getting them is to try to simulate him to hunt. Which is why I'm not getting any expensive fish. Petsmart has 1 dollar fish sells and the fish I recently got, 9 for 6 dollars. They are cheap and replaceable.
