Haha no problem! :) Ah same as my turtles! They are still very afraid to get up on the basking area when they see me too hahaha.

It's made of acrylic. :)

Quick question about lighting the tank. Does that matter at all? The lighting in the lower half? I'm in the process of building a basking area and was wondering.

@Akikta - what kind of tank? Normally additional lighting is not required. In a stock tank, sand really helps to brighten up the bottom of the tank.

It's a fish tank/terrarium. I'm going to upgrade to a much needed 100 gallon tank before I build it though. Also, where do you guys that build them get your acrylic and how thick is it? I can only find 1/8th or 1/4th of an inch thick acrylic.

1/4" acrylic should be good for for a basking area over a 100 gallon tank. I built one for my 50 and used 1/8, I think.

Acrylic is very strong.

Thank you, when I buy my 100 gallon and the build begins I'll be sure start a thread on it. Also, would 1/8th be fine for a 100 gallon?

I use 1/4" and buy it at a glass shop pre cut.

Your talking about wood around the outside like this. Then yes wood is fine.

Yea something like that. I'm going to have the sides mostly wood with some acrylic panes and then the underside would be a 1/4th inch acrylic pane with an acrylic ramp
