Habitat - Indoor :: New 75 gallon tank

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Post Posted: Sun Sep 16, 2007 5:55 pm   New 75 gallon tank

I got a new 75 tank today for free from my neighbor. I wasn't expecting it, so I never bought a a bigger heater, filter, light, or even a basking platform.

What I have in it now all came from my rubbermaid tank.

What would be a good size filter for this tank? And is that branch thing in there safe? I need to buy all new stuff so any suggestions wuld be helpful. Thanks!

I wish I had a neighbor like that. Wow, how lucky for you and your turtle!

A canister filter would probably work very nicely in that tank.
As for the tree, I don't see why it would be harmful, it can't trap your turtle... the only concern I would have is it getting pushed by your turtle and breaking the glass... but I don't know how possible that is.
A nice background and some fake plants would really spruce the tank up :-)

Take a look at a Rena Filstar XP3. It's a very good canister that would be an excellent size for that tank.

The tree thing is actually some sort of epoxy resin similar to the what some docks are made of. It's quite heavy and I don't see it moving much. It looks cool too so I think I'll keep it.

I might try growing some aquatic plants in there and I'll definitely get a background.

Thanks for the suggestion about the filter. I'll look into it.
Edit: I found a decent price on the XP4. I might buy that since I can be looking at a 150 gallon tank in the future. I've read a lot of good stuff about Rena filters, so I think it will be money well spend. Thanks!

I have a link in the deals section for XP3s and XP4s on sale at big als.

I'd also get larger basking area... corkbark is an easy favorite now.

What about the basking light and some thermometers?

I think I'm a little jealous  Why was he giving the tank away? Your water looks really clean. Look into an XP3 or one of the bigger canister fluvals for filters.

Yeah I'll work on something soon. This one is small.

This tank was used with lazards so it came with a bunch of lamps. All I need are the right bulbs. I have a thermometer somewhere too.
