i got a 55 gal tank given to me and the black trim is cracked and dry rotted is it still safe to put water in that tank or should i get another one?

The trim is only used to cover the silicone, and the water line. Make sure you inspect all the silicone seals, and you may want to test it outside first. :wink:

thanks,i was taking it outside to put water in it to test it out and found a hair line crack looks like i will have to save up and buy a new one

Is it a crack, or a scratch? If it is a crack, you are very wise not to use it. The weight of the water would have made the crack bigger and bigger, until it gave way.

its a crack i can rub my fingernail across and feel the crack from the inside of the tank.

Well now you got a tank for somethine else

Just seal up the crack and put something that doesn't require water in it
