Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I have a good bit of 1/2 inch MDF and Speaker box carpeting. Would I beable to make a suitable exterior basking area with those two items. The carpet is very low pile and it fairly soft. I has become very clear that Rexi needs a much larger tank and I think that making a box out of what I hae on hand would be a very good thing and she would probably love it.

I'd stay away from using MDF (particle board). It's not designed to be used around damp or wet areas. If it gets wet it will slowly fall apart. Go with solid wood. Sand, stain and seal it first.

What if it is built of the side if the tank not above the water? it would be away from the water atleast. I could still water proof it to help keep it in good shape.

You could give it a try, if it's all you've got to work with. From my own experience (I used it as a flooring substrate, under carpeting) that stuff soaks up moisture like a sponge, then over time it swells up and falls apart..... :(

Money is tight and it is what I have to work with, I can see what else I may have kicking around but I think that is it.
