Refresh my memory - is Ruth another turtle? A much bigger one? I'm afraid it's dangerous to put a little turtle in with a big one - the big ones tend to bite (and even kill) the little ones. Best to put your new little charmer in his/her own tank.

ruth is 1 to 1 1.5in long she is still a baby herself!...she knows the little one is there and like puts her hands in front of her and waves her hands sort of like?.. Ruth sticks around to nickel but when nickel bask ruth dont she swims around and waits for nickel to get back in the water and then ruth and her swim around again...

What type of turtles are these? I think with RES the fluttering (the waving of the arms) is more of a sign of aggression, but with painted's I am told they do this to get to know one another. Just make sure they aren't attacking each other.

That sounds like the start of agressive behavior. I'd keep a close eye on them. Even if they arent physically fighting, it's still a problem if one keeps the other from basking/eating enough.

It sounds like Ruth is really upset about this other turtle in her territory. It could very quickly lead to fighting, and even death of the new turtle. :(

Well ruth hasnt attacked her yet or anything..Ruth actually lets nickel get on her back in the water to swim around. Then while nickel bask ruth will get up on the edge of the ramp and Kinda bask with her but of course when ruth see someone she will go down and swim..as for the food nickel gets to eat and so does ruth. But I havent seen any aggresion yet from ruth.

They are different breeds of turtles. I keep Painteds and come on here even though this is a RES forum. There are a few other with Painteds or other breeds of turtles so I just thought I would mention what I was told about Painteds :)
